Agios Nikolaos town

The structure and position of the town facilitates numerous ways to exercise. From simply running around picturesque Agios, to swimming in its crystal-clear waters, stand up paddling to a nearby island, or fitness training in spectacular locations. The town and its seven hills offer a challenge to all fitness levels and distance capabilities. Step running up unlimited steep slopes, sprinting on the soft sand of the town’s countless Blue-Ribbon beaches, water running and ‘’out of the box’’ training in sparkling saltwater, and all with panoramic backdrops to take your breath away.

Almyros Beach

A long sandy beach (some 400 meters), perfect for running all year round. Great terrain for all types of exercise, particularly enhanced when the sun is rising or setting behind the sheer mountains across the bay.

The shallow waters make it a favorite spot for running in the sea (quality sprints, running drills, muscle endurance and strengthening). And nothing compares to cooling down in the fast-flowing fresh water river (15ºC summer and winter) flows into the sea.  So refreshing you’re feeling prepared for the next day’s training).

Votsalo

A pebble beach with the clearest of waters. A small breakwater ensures perpetual calm and wind protected sea. The perfect location for open water swimming with infinite routes and rocks for cliff diving. The sea life in this particular spot is unbelievable making your swimming sessions very interesting.

Ammos Beach Marina

This sandy, shallow beach adjoins the marina, and is protected by 3 breakwaters which allows for Stand Up Paddle (SUP) all year round. There are many routes, such as Votsalo , Almyros beach, Kitroplateia beach, the island Agioi Pantes, the lake Voulismeni. The Marina itself, which houses many traditional and modern sailing boats of all sizes, has excellent level running paths for easier running. Truly enjoyable and fascinating ‘boat sightseeing’ as you run.

Kitroplateia

The moment you turn and see this beach you absorb the energy, aura and essence of Agios Nikolaos – the backdrop of huge mountains behind crystal clear sea, a pretty little sandy beach, Amalthea’s Horn sculpture, it has everything. An incredible spot for SUP, for a rest, a swim and a favorite spot for our runs. Kitroplateia is one of our passages in our running route around the Town.

The port

The cup shaped port, between sea and lake will take you back to a different era and different world. A tiny, picturesque harbor bustling with life, where we continue our run, getting the same ecstatic sensation viewing the sea, mountains, distant islands and a fascinating modern sculpture, ‘’The Abduction of Europa’’. In the summertime you may see one of the many cruise ships that prioritize Agios Nikolaos on their Mediterranean route.

The lake Voulismeni

The jewel of our majestic town, the heart of Agios Nikolaos. This super deep, green hued lake hosts small fishing boats. narrow canal connects it with the sea, tall cliffs dwarf it and it is surrounded by wonderful seafood restaurants and stylish cafes. The perimeter is about 500m excellent for running intervals and the best part is the steps (approximately 150) that connects to the ‘’mountain’’, giving an astonishing view when on top. The cliffs host an annual International Cliff Diving competition, a sure mark of their quality.

The sea front Coastal

About 1 kilometer long, with a wide, palm tree and hibiscus line coastal pavement it offers a majestic run along the sea. Superb for continuous or interval runs, and also for body weight training. (‘’training on the sea’’). It terminates in yet another pretty, sandy beach, Ammoudi. The shallow, soft sand, beach and crystal waters are excellent for various swimming sessions.

Ormos

A small graphic bay with a few anchored fishing boats about 2km from the town center. It’s a decent length run along the coast with a staggering view of Agios Nikolaos as you ultimately make a U turn to a quiet spot where you can perform a body weight or HIIT training. Our top spot for this kind of training.
